The Great American Typewriter

Every emo kid knows that music is the most elite form of therapy. Belting your feelings out loud alongside your favorite band will heal you in ways even the best therapist can’t touch. My friends of The Great American Typewriter took this a beat further when in 2022, after the loss of a mutual friend, they came together to channel their feelings into the same sort of music that has saved so many of us. The Great American Typewriter makes music that feels good, rather than music that will sell. They play for the joy of creating together, and the outcome is fantastic. The heart of their sound is full and poppy, though they borrow from just about every sub-genre under the sun to bring fans an eclectic and nicely balanced trip into the nostalgic past. In their time together, The Great American Typewriter have produced a handful of singles, an ep, and one full-length record, So Much for Dreams; all great listens in this writer’s opinion. This band is sure to get emo kids (both growing and overgrown) all in their feels in the best possible way.

Fans can keep up with The Great American Typewriter on socials [Insta @thegreatamericantypewriter / Tiktok @tgatband], and tune in to all their favorite streaming platforms to give him a listen. Keep scrolling to get to know Tim (guitar/vocals) and Cody (vocals) in my lightning round Q&A!

Lightning Round Q&A

If you had to credit one band or artist with being your biggest influence, who would it be?

Tim- Being from this area, it’s hard not to say The Wonder Years. But growing up and seeing their journey start locally, and evolve to what it is has been inspiring.

Cody- Kid Dynamite and Alkaline Trio

What’s your dream venue, the place that will feel like you’ve “made it” once you play there?

Tim- the TLA in Philly

Cody- the Fillmore in Philly

If you could pick any band or artist, past or present, to tour with, who would it be?

Tim- Arms Length

Cody- Saves The Day or With The Punches

If each of you was a Disney character, who would you be?

Tim- Peter Pan

Cody- Beast from Beauty and the Beast

Any new music or upcoming tours we should know about? Anything brewing behind the scenes you can give a hint about?

Tim- we’re always playing and writing, so something’s always bound to happen. We released an album called So Much For Dreams last year, so we’ve been riding that.

Cody- We always are writing and working on new music. So, there's always something in the works. Maybe some more music videos too
