Do you live for songs that sound like worn out Vans, band tees, and way-too-skinny jeans? If so, I think I’ve found your new favorite artist.
Joey CXP is everything you love about early 2000’s pop-punk; familiar-feeling riffs, relatable lyrics, melodies that make you want to move your feet and sing loud and proud in the car with the windows down. Joey has a deep passion for making music, evidenced by his thoughtful storytelling and intentional arrangements. He has been playing and writing songs since before most kids learn to ride a bike without training wheels, music may as well be his second language. Like so many of us, the honesty and accessibility of emo and pop-punk music was Joey CXP’s home in his youth, and since he returned to that sound he’s been unstoppable.
Joey leans heavily into the beloved pop-punk sound first championed by legends Blink-182, but don’t get it twisted, his distinct personal edge keeps things fresh and energizing; no tired, carbon copy nonsense happening over here. His new single, “jersey devil,” just hit streams last week and it’s the perfect place to start falling in love. Q: If you had to credit one band or artist with being your biggest influence, who would it be?
Green Day - they opened me up to the whole pop punk and alternative rock music scene
Q. What’s your dream venue, the place that will feel like you’ve “made it” once you play there?
Not a venue, but just any stage at Warped Tour.
Q. If you could pick any band or artist, past or present, to tour with, who would it be?
Neck Deep cause their shows look like a blast. Thats the energy I like at my shows.
Q. If each of you was a Disney character, who would you be?
Hannah Montana. I’m living a double life. Rock star at night and waking up the next morning, throwing on a collared shirt and showing up to my 9-5.
Q. What’s the craziest, cringiest thing you’ve done for the sake of your music?
Probably my TikToks. I think social media can be cringey especially when I watch my own videos back. But I'm just being myself and I don’t really care what people have to say.
Q. If we gave out high-school superlatives today, what would you win?
“Most likely to still be chasing the dream.”
Q. Any new music or upcoming tours we should know about? Anything brewing behind the scenes you can give a hint about?
New single “jersey devil” out Jan 15th. A college party tour this spring. And my first full album to follow (not giving you any dates for the album yet though 😉)
