If you've been paying attention to the pop-punk scene over the last year, you've probably watched Good Terms go from "one of those bands you need to check out" to one of the hottest names in the genre. Now they're looking to keep that momentum rolling with their brand-new single, "Hard Call," the first taste of a new album expected later this year.
Following the success of Burnout (Deluxe) and fan-favorite singles like "Progress" and "All In," the Los Angeles band has officially entered a new chapter. What started as support slots has evolved into sold-out headlining shows, appearances at Vans Warped Tour, and even a spot aboard ShipRocked 2027 alongside Papa Roach.
And if "HARD CALL" is any indication, Good Terms aren't slowing down anytime soon.
A Breakup Song... That Isn't Really About a Breakup
On the surface, "Hard Call" feels like the kind of emotionally charged anthem that pop-punk has built its reputation on. But according to vocalist and guitarist Brian "Kid" McShea, the song digs a little deeper.
It's a song about moving on disguised as a breakup song.
McShea explains that the song was inspired by the difficult decisions that have surrounded the band over the past few years, from navigating an increasingly demanding schedule to dealing with real-life hardships like California's Eaton Fire and the uncertainty of the world around them.
It's one of those times when we knew we had to make the right move, but it didn't feel good at all.
That emotional conflict sits at the heart of "Hard Call." While the music explodes with infectious riffs, soaring melodies, and crushing breakdowns, there's an undeniable sense of longing underneath it all.
McShea says the original idea was born from a bizarre but brilliant thought experiment:
Imagine a funk-metal band in 1990 somehow getting a copy of a Paramore record.
Somehow... it works.
To bring everything together, Good Terms teamed up with producer Sam Guaiana ( Silverstein, Neck Deep), whose polished yet aggressive production captures both the band's pop sensibilities and their heavier ambitions.
McShea says the song is for anyone who's chosen a concert over sitting alone with their emotions.
"It's for the people who still show up to see their favorite band after a bad breakup, for the people who would rather scream along with a room full of people than cry at home."
That philosophy has become part of Good Terms' identity, creating songs that acknowledge life's messiness while reminding listeners there's still something worth shouting about.
